Hi there,
Welcome to October’s newsletter! This month, we’re focusing on how inclusion drives business success, plus wellness ideas to help your team manage stress as the holidays approach.
Standing Firm on Inclusion in Shifting Times
As some companies take a step back from DE&I, Spot continues to empower organizations in creating inclusive workplaces. Amidst recent anti-DE&I rhetoric, civil rights organizations are urging businesses to reaffirm their commitment to inclusive workplaces. These organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign and the National Women’s Law Center, wrote a letter to Fortune 500 CEOs, reminding them that, in spite of campaigns by conservative activists,
there’s a strong business case for continuing DE&I efforts….Diverse companies perform better financially, and emerging professionals prefer to work for them. (HR Brew)
Diversity isn’t just a buzzword, it’s key to innovation and engagement. According to DE&I expert Diana Scott,
You don’t do DEI because you’re trying to be ‘woke.’ You do DEI because it’s actually serving your business. (Retail Dive)
While challenges to DE&I may come and go, the benefits are clear. Embracing diversity means creating a safer work environment for your organization—one that also drives better retention and higher productivity.
🍂 Wellness Tips for Managing End-of-Year Stress
As we head into the last quarter of the year, stress levels can soar for many employees. Share (or re-communicate!) strategies for stress management, such as mindfulness activities, wellness breaks, or other resources you already have in place. Consider setting up a wellness challenge to help your team recharge. This could be anything from a habit-building challenge, such as the amount of water you drink in a day, to a reading or decluttering challenge.
Organizations use Spot in various ways, but one common benefit is providing employees a healthy outlet for sharing thoughts. Encourage your team to use Spot as a resource for expressing what’s on their mind and managing stress in a confidential and supported way.
This 🐻🐻 repeating
Starting October 26, 2024, employers in the UK will have a new legal duty to prevent workplace sexual harassment. The Worker Protection Act requires proactive measures to create a safe environment, with penalties for non-compliance.
To comply with the new regulations and foster a safer work environment, employers should implement an anonymous reporting tool that facilitates follow-up and investigations (such as Spot), update policies, and revise training programs. Let your employees know you take this seriously by reminding them of your policies and the resources at their disposal.
🗓️ Planning Ahead
Here’s what to keep in mind for next month. In the U.S., November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to honor and learn about the rich cultures and contributions of Native American communities. Here are some other dates to add to your calendar if you’re based in the U.S.:
- Nov 19: International Men’s Day – Promote men’s mental and physical health
- Nov 20: Transgender Day of Remembrance – Honor lives lost to anti-transgender violence
- Nov 11: Veterans Day (Remembrance Day in the UK) – Recognize the contributions of those who have served
- Nov 28: Thanksgiving – Show gratitude to your team!
