⏳ Mid‑year insights: AI‑powered efficiency & flexible structures

We're halfway through 2025—what a ride—and people leaders are simultaneously doubling down on AI‑driven productivity and re‑architecting teams for greater flexibility. That means organizations that can adapt thoughtfully and creatively are likely to come out ahead.

As LaFawn Davis, Indeed's Chief People and Sustainability Officer, puts it,

While the pace of change is fast, it won’t be sustainable without a foundation of well-being. That means designing work that fosters balance, connection, and purpose. Indeed’s research shows that well-being isn’t just about how people feel. It’s predictive of how they perform.

A few key trends we're seeing HR push for right now:

  • Activate AI to drive results. CHROs are automating repetitive tasks so HR can focus on business enablement and revenue‑linked strategy.
  • Upskill managers, shrink bureaucracy. Clear expectations and coaching equip managers to lead leaner, tech‑augmented teams.
  • Design roles around tasks, not titles. A “human‑plus‑AI” talent mix—full‑time, part‑time, contract, and smart agents—can trim 10–20 % of workload without layoffs or lost engagement.
  • Offer benefits that match flexibility. Providing benefits to part‑timers sustains morale while easing labor costs.

Rishad Tobaccowala, author of Rethinking Work, emphasizes the potential benefits of organizational adaptability in this moment:

The reality of it is, if you actually told everybody in your company, ‘Hey, next year, do you want to work 60%, 80%, or 100%?’ I have a feeling you’ll end up with an average of about 85%. You can basically reduce your headcount by 15%, without doing a single layoff.

How are you feeling about AI, productivity, and team realignment?
