đ§ Can AI really replace recruiters?
Some venture capitalists seem to think so. VC Victor Lazarte recently said on the Twenty Minute VC podcast, âOne thing that I think is super exciting right now is just replacing people.â Lazarte suggested that AI interviews could be more efficient than human ones. But people in the recruiting world arenât convinced. Theyâre already using AI to screen CVs or handle scheduling, but replacing humans entirely? Not likely.
Stephanie Sansone, who leads talent acquisition at iCIMS, puts it well: âWhere recruiters bring in incredible value is being able to translate what sometimes is on a piece of paper and doesnât tell the full story, but the recruiters can give context and color with specific examples through the conversation that theyâve had with candidates.â
As she points out, AI might help with the black-and-white stuff. But for now, nuanced candidate assessment and actual hiring happen in the gray areas.
đď¸ Planning ahead
June is packed with powerful opportunities to recognize identity, celebrate resilience, and support equity. From Pride Month to Juneteenth, itâs a time to listen, learn, and lift up voices that matter. Here are a few meaningful dates to keep in mind:
- LGBTQ+ Pride Month â Celebrate queer history and community with employee spotlights (only with permission), book recs, lunch & learns, or by supporting local LGBTQ+ businesses. Not sure where to start? Ask your team how they want to be seen and celebrated.
- Caribbean American Heritage Month â Honor the impact of Caribbean Americans by sharing stories, recipes, history, and authors. And, so youâre not assuming what recognition looks like, invite conversation. Ask first in order to celebrate mindfully.
- June 6: National Doughnut Day (US) â Lighten things up with a box of treats or a remote-friendly coffee-and-doughnut meeting theme. No hidden agenda, just sugar (and maybe extra caffeine).
- June 19: Juneteenth (US) â Commemorate emancipation with intention. That might mean closing your office, inviting a speaker, or sharing resources on Black history and liberation.
