Hi there,

This is your monthly roundup of Spot product updates and DEI-related content.

What’s in store for 2023?

It’s easy to look at the recent tech layoffs (Amazon, Google, and Spotify, to name just a few) and think that DEI may also fall victim to the last-in, first-out calculus. If companies are cutting 10% of their workforce, will they also cut initiatives intended to create an inclusive environment for employees?

Not according to the CPO over at Greenhouse: “[C]ompanies that encourage people to speak up and then take action based on the feedback given will find it significantly easier to attract and retain talent. Genuine inclusion, not performative diversity, will accelerate growth for people-first companies. All others will see their ability to attract and retain talent globally extinguished.”

Attracting and retaining talent may not seem top of mind when you’re laying people off, but it’s still much cheaper to retain the people you have than to source, vet, hire, onboard, and retain new talent. The very economic trends prompting tech layoffs should also incentivize organizations to continue building cultures of trust and inclusivity that will pay off over time.
